Here at Village Books we have a wonderful array of cookbooks, and new ones come in almost every week. Now that spring is here, it is time to get back to yummy eating again. Gather friends or family and start cooking - or even baking - it's fun! When I need a reading break, I get up, go into the kitchen and grab a cookbook. Then, while whatever I made is cooking or baking, I go back to reading my book! Here are some of my all-time favorites and some brand new ones, too!

OLD FAVS

Maida Heatter's Book of Great Desserts
This cookbook is easy to use and clear on directions and produces delicious desserts, an important part of any meal!  When I need a chocolate cake, I turn to her Palm Beach Chocolate Cake recipe, and it is always a winner.

Gourmet
This newest edition, edited by critic Ruth Reichl, is a great old standard and a place to look for good basic recipes.

Barefoot Contessa Family Style by Ina Garten
My favorite recipe in this book is Scott's Short Ribs - they are the most succulent and juicy and satisfying beef ribs you will ever eat!  I also love her other books, including her latest, Barefoot Contessa at Home.

Better Home & Gardens
Another basic-bible, great for all standard and old fashioned recipes-I refer to it often.

BakingBaking by Dorrie Greenspan
I was first drawn to this book by the beautiful cover (uh-oh)  but it worked! I made that cake and it looked just the same and was positively scrumptious!  Try it! (Actually this book is not that old, but it sure has become a favorite of mine!)

BRAND NEW

Lidia's Italy by Lidia Matticchio Bastianich is practically a culinary tour of Italy with recipes from the "ten places in Italy Lidia loves most!"

Cooking From the Hip by Cat Corra is divided into four sections, "fast," "easy," "fun," and "phenomenal" and includes simple variations on classics like broccoli salad and gazpacho.

Everyday Pasta
by Giada de Laurentiis provides more than a hundred new recipes for pasta dishes (as well as for sauces, salads, and sides) that are easy to prepare and delicious, whether you are looking for something light and delicate, or rich and hearty.

Paula Deen Celebrates
is arranged by menus for traditional holidays and other, sometimes whimsical celebrations like Elvis's Birthday and Movie-Watching Pizza Party in Bed.

On Top of Spaghetti
by Johanne Killeen is a versatile collection of recipes that proves the ingenuity of pasta.

Tasty by Roy Finamore offers more than 200 recipes for the type of fare that's become familiar to many modern home cooks - American cuisine with Italian and French accents, using fresh ingredients and simple preparations.

Come on in and we will help you find your very own favorite cookbooks! In fact, if you come in any Thursday around 3:00 pm, we have homemade “bickies” (sweets) and tea and we share!
