Love is in the air this time of year.

Everywhere you turn, some advertisement is screaming at you with flowers, chocolates, or diamonds. If you’re looking for something a little less traditional, why not try a book for that special person in your life?

Here are some suggestions...

A Practical Handbook for the BoyfriendOf the more practical books on love one of my personal favorites is A Practical Handbook for the Boyfriend , by one of America’s favorite “Desperate Housewives” Felicity Huffman and Patricia Wolff.  This book is a great way to nudge your guy in the right direction, or if he’s already on the right path, this might just be a helpful tip book.

One book that has been very popular with the majority of the staff here at Village Books is Eat, Pray, Love , a memoir by Elizabeth Gilbert. She travels all around the world; eating in Italy, praying in India, and finding love in Indonesia. It’s the perfect alternative to the traditional guide to love.Eat, Pray, Love

Everything Men Know About WomenOn a lighter note, try giving Everything Men Know About Women , by Knott Mutch. There’s a special something in this book that you actually have to read to find out more, but for someone who loves to laugh, it’ll be the perfect surprise.

Also try They Call Me Naughty LolaAlso try They Call Me Naughty Lola , edited by David Rose, which is a collection of personal ads from the London Review of Books. Hilarious and a little bittersweet, this is the perfect gift for someone you love, or even someone looking for love.

Relationships for DummiesFor those of us who still can’t get it right (*ahem*), there’s always hope in the form of Relationships for Dummies , by Dr. Kate M. Wachs, who takes you through all the steps of finding/creating that perfect relationship.

Here's hoping you have a lovely Valentine's Day.
