Final Exam

Final Exam: A Surgeon’s Reflection on Mortality.  Sounded like required reading for every doctor, but also interesting on a broader level.  We all will experience the death of loved ones (and as you get older it happens all too frequently) and it’s helpful to acknowledge and somewhat prepare yourself for the inevitable.  This book sounded like a very insightful look on the topic.

On a lighter note, the title Final Exam reminds me of the amazing and wonderful Special Topics in Calamity Physics, by Marisha Pessl.  We are having a bookclub discussion led by Kathy Jackson, PhD tomorrow evening at 6 and I started skimming over the book to refresh my memory, and I am falling in love with it all over again!  Special Topics in Calamity Physics

As Dad said to Blue while discussing the wonders of education…”And so it is with the curriculum.  That celestial, sweet set of instructions, culminating in the scary wonder of the Final Exam.  And what is the Final Exam?  A test on one’s deepest understanding of giant concepts.  No wonder so many adults long to return to university, to all those deadlines-ahhh, that structure!” p. 12
Ahh, well, I’d best get back to the customers… Happy Saturday!  Katie
